Samson Agboola International Travel Prize

Named in memory of Associate Professor Samson Agboola, this prize is awarded to the Research Higher Degree student who has demonstrated academic excellence and provided a significant contribution to the positive enhancement of the discipline of Food Science and/or Chemistry.

ELIGIBILITY

Students enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy or Master of Philosophy with research activity focussed on chemistry and/or food science.

CRITERIA

Offered to students with demonstrated academic excellence and who contribute to the positive enhancement of the discipline of Food Science and/or Chemistry. Nominees will have demonstrated outstanding student achievement and leadership in their discipline, and/or commitment to the promotion of public understanding of, or participation in, science.

Students will complete an application form. A selection panel will review applications and make a determination of the successful applicant.

Applications must be submitted by 28th February in the year in which the prize is to be awarded.

VALUE

$1,000 contribution toward travel to a relevant international conference or visiting international laboratories/institutions for the purpose of developing collaboration, presenting results or conducting experiments. Travel booking must be made via CSU Travel. Will not be provided as a personal payment to the student.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Applicants MUST be a currently enrolled higher degree research student in a course associated with the Food Science or Chemistry disciplines.
  • The prize is to be used for overseas travel for activities which facilitate the student's research program such as attending a conference or visiting international labs for the purpose of developing collaboration, presenting results or conducting experiments.
  • Applicants must have met all probation conditions for their degree and must provide written approval from their Principal Supervisor.
  • A successful travel prize recipient is expected to maintain their enrolment and normal course progression during the academic year. The receipt of a travel prize does not include special consideration for academic matters, extensions for coursework or other special provisions.
  • Within two (2) months of return from travel, the prize recipient will submit a written summary report and a statement of expenditure to the Sub-Dean Graduate studies. They will submit a short report for inclusion in the Faculty of Science Research Bulletin.
  • The travel prize may be awarded up to the value of $1,000. Allocation of a prize of less than $1000 may be made. If no applications are deemed worthy, then no allocation will be made.
  • Travel must be concluded within 12 months of the prize being awarded and must not occur in the 6 months preceding thesis submission. Funds cannot be carried over from one year to the next. If travel is not taken within the defined time period, the prize is void. A student may reapply in the next year.
  • Candidates will only be eligible for a prize once during their candidature. Unsuccessful applicants are able to apply each year. A new application must be submitted each year.
