The rural clinical placement handbook has been developed to support students undertaking clinical placements with the assistance of the Three Rivers UDRH Positively Rural program and should be used in conjunction with discipline specific clinical
The Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) is an entity led by Charles Sturt University in the Riverina and Central West region of NSW which is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health to improve the recruitment and retention of allied health, nursing and dental professionals in rural and remote Australia.
The aim of the Three Rivers UDRH 'Positively Rural' program is to facilitate and support students from allied health, nursing and dental disciplines to undertake rural clinical placements through providing positive clinical training experiences.
Students are to be enrolled in a recognised Health Profession Course. This includes: Nursing, Midwifery, Dentistry, Oral Health, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Podiatry, Speech Pathology, Pharmacy, Paramedicine, Medical Radiation Science, Mental Health (Indigenous), Psychology, Social Work, Exercise Physiology and Pathology.
Our Positively Rural clinical placement handbook outlines the support activities offered by the Three Rivers Positively Rural team. It also details useful websites and resources to make rural clinical placements a positive and rewarding learning experience, as well as extensive information about the regional training centres which are a focus of the Three Rivers UDRH. This information is aimed to improve social inclusion for students living and learning in the regions.
This handbook is not designed to replace the discipline specific handbooks relevant to your discipline, but to complement the information and provide a valuable resource to make the rural clinical placement a positive, rewarding and educational experience.
The Student Handbook also provides information on what you can see and do whilst you are staying at our accommodation.
The Three Rivers UDRH team hope that enjoy your stay and that you have a positive and rewarding placement experience.
