Associate Professor Caroline Robinson

Caroline moved to Australia from the UK in 2005, where she had been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate podiatry students since 1992, at the University of Brighton. She has worked as a lecturer in Podiatry at CSU since July 2005 and has held various leadership roles during this time including Honours coordinator, acting Podiatry Program Leader, acting Course Director and acting Physiotherapy program leader. Her present role is Courses Director for the School of Community Health and the School of Exercise Science, Sport and Health.

Teaching

Caroline's areas of teaching interest and expertise include: local anaesthesia and podiatric surgery; pharmacology; podiatric medicine; qualitative data analysis for honours.

Innovations in Teaching

Caroline's experience in inter-professional practice (IPP) commenced in 2001, with the development of a workplace learning experience between Podiatry and Pharmacy undergraduate students. In 2006 she replicated this initiative at CSU to facilitate IPP for podiatry and physiotherapy students. Caroline's interest in inter-professional education has led to her involvement in the creation of the Inter-professional Collaboration Alliance (ICA) comprising CSU, Albury-Wodonga Health and Hume Medicare Local. The purpose of the ICA is to facilitate inter-professional education and practice, and to enable the development of networks to support practice. Allied health and nursing practitioners meet with clinical educators, academics and final year undergraduate students, to participate in inter-professional education.

Caroline's interest in the development of undergraduate students as practitioners, has informed the creation of online simulations to engage learners through complex scenarios. This initiative was implemented in 2012 for POD404: Complex Cases in Podiatric Practice. The collaborative development of online simulations to enable the education of critically reflective practitioners, informs Caroline's research activity.

Research

Caroline's doctoral research explored the experience of allied health honours students at CSU and at La Trobe university. Her research interests include: online simulation; collaboration in the development of online learning resources; developing practitioners and practitioner-researchers in allied health; inter-professional practice; Honours; podiatric intervention and outcomes.
